Prior to taking company command, I visited the local PX to find some helpful resources about company command. As I scanned the bookshelf at the PX, I noticed a catchy, reddish colored book with Captain’s bars on it.

West Africa Before and After Colonialism

Garriguesz, a poor Portuguese sailor and his sons, sail to West Africain 1436. They are ready and have illusions that there is something out there. They are the first Europeans to sail to the Gulf of Guinea before the Independence of Ghana in 1957. They experience many encounters between the West Africans and the Europeans and the reasons of how the slave trade began.
