A History of the New Forest in Hampshire, UK

The New Forest in Hampshire currently covers an area of approx. 145 square miles (37,500 hectares) of land, although its size has varied somewhat over the centuries. It was originally designated as a royal hunting area: one of 21 Royal Forests created in 1079 by King William I (the Conqueror) which were subject to strict rules known as Forest Law.

The enchanting castle is officially recognised as a Grade 1 listed building of Special Architectural and Historical Interest and is held to be one of the finest surviving examples of the Picturesque and Romantic architectural style which rose to prominence in the latter half of the 18th century and beginning of the 19th century.

From the time we are born, our identities begin to evolve. In certain instances however, our identities become fixed over time, especially as they are formed in relationship to siblings. “She's the smart one”, we think to ourselves. “He's the one good at sports”. “She's the one with the special needs; I'm the perfect one”. We often define ourselves in relation to another sibling, especially if parental expectations solidify those identities.

The Wedding Gown That Made History

Lilly Friedman doesn't remember the last name of the woman who designed and sewed the wedding gown she wore when she walked down the aisle over 60 years ago. But the grandmother of seven does recall that when she first told her fiancé Ludwig that she had always dreamed of being married in a white gown, he realized he had his work cut out for him.
